What makes a great client-adviser relationship?

A great client–adviser relationship is built on trust, and trust comes from consistently addressing a client’s needs and delivering solutions that genuinely meet them. It also grows through a relationship that goes beyond finances – one where we share their highs and lows, understand their life, and build a rapport that often borders on friendship. Equally important is communicating in a way that adapts to each client’s level of knowledge and comfort, ensuring they feel informed, understood, and fully supported throughout their financial journey.

My favourite holiday destination is:

My favourite holiday destination is Santorini – there’s something truly magical about the place. I’ve visited three times, but my first trip at 21 is the one I remember most vividly: riding a bike across the island at sunset in just trainers, shorts, and a T‑shirt, without a care in the world. Years later, I found myself retracing that moment in a very different way – this time with my heavily pregnant wife steering a quad bike. The circumstances had changed, but that same sense of freedom, adventure, and wonder remained.

The biggest misconception about financial planning is:

That it’s ‘expensive’. Everything in life has a price, but the real cost often comes from getting things wrong or making decisions without understanding all the options. The value of professional advice isn’t just in the pounds and pence – it’s in the peace of mind that comes from knowing your finances are aligned, protected, and working for you.
